Police lift safety lockdown on Rochester Memorial School following investigation

After reports of a man carrying a gun near Rochester Memorial School were investigated and the school was put on lockdown, the Police Department has determined that was no safety threat.

The police received two calls about a man walking down Hartley Road with a gun after 10 a.m., according to police reports.

In response, the elementary school, which is located on Hartley Road, was locked down as a precaution.

After a search of the area, police discovered that the local resident was carrying a BB gun to go target shooting with on the Wildlife and Fisheries reserve on Hartley Road, according to police reports.

After an investigation, the police determined that there was no threat to the school or to the local residents.

The lockdown has since been lifted, according to police reports.
