Poor returns prompt organizers to cancel Taste of the Tri-Town in 2013

Citing “disappointing” returns from September’s Taste of the Tri-Town event, the organizers have cancelled the annual event for 2013.

On Wednesday, Marion School Committee member Jay Pateakos announced that the September 7 event at the Mattapoisett YMCA netted only $800.

With food donated by local restaurants and caterers as well as raffles and wine tasting, Taste of the Tri-Town has been held for the past four years.

All proceeds go towards supporting local school programs and events through the Lighthouse Fund of the Old Rochester Tri-Town Education Foundation.

Given the amount of time and effort put into organizing the event, Pateakos, a member of the foundation, said the group was “disappointed.”

However, Pateakos added that the foundation is starting to plan another fundraiser that would not compete with similar local events, such as Taste of the Town in Mattapoisett.

“We figured it would be best if we went into another fundraising route that would be less work,” Pateakos said.

Pateakos said he would report back to the committee once more definitive plans are made.
