Postponed hearing on Converse Road development frustrates neighbors

Apr 17, 2019

MARION — An April 16 public hearing on a proposed small housing project off of Converse Road was continued until May 6, much to the dismay of about a dozen residents who had come to the Planning Board meeting to voice their concerns.

The project — involving construction of a cul-de-sac and two new houses on a 3.6-acre parcel owned by 22 Cove Street LLC — was last on the board’s agenda.

David M. Davignon of N. Douglas Schneider & Associates of Mattapoisett, representing Cove Street, outlined the project and his requests of the board. At the conclusion of his presentation, the board decided there was not enough time that evening to hear from all the residents, discuss the issue and take a vote. As a result, the hearing was continued until May 6 at 7 p.m.

The road and two new lots would be located at 213 Converse Rd., in a wooded area behind several neighbors’ backyards.

The delay frustrated those in attendance.

“I don’t understand why you can’t let people voice their concerns here,” complained one resident, who said there were some people who had traveled “great distances” to get to the hearing.

The continued hearing will be held at the Marion Town House, 2 Spring St.
