Fitness Room is open
The Fitness Room is open and available for members to use. Become a member by paying a $20 per month membership fee, and then use the equipment as many times as the room is open in that month. The schedule is Mondays and Wednesdays, 8 to 11 a.m., and Fridays 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. As membership grows, so will the hours. A packet with required registration forms to participate is available at the Senior Center office. Anyone is may join. Call Tammy, the group leader, at 508-763-8723 for information.
The room will be unavailable for use on election days or holidays. Those weeks, it will be open on a Thursday morning from 8 to 11 a.m.
Hearing loss, hearing aids and better communication
Dr. Eugene Antonell of Hear Better Now will be at the Senior Center on Thursday, June 16 at 9:30 a.m. to lead a discussion and PowerPoint presentation to all interested older adults on the topics of hearing loss, hearing aids and better communication.
Advance signup is not necessary.
Mass Senior Action Council
The local chapter of the senior advocacy group, the Massachusetts Senior Action Council, will be at the Senior Center on Thursday, June 16 at 2:15 p.m. to offer information on its efforts to better the lives of older adults.

- Tuesday, June 7: Concord Museum, N.C. Wyatt’s “Men of Concord”; Leave at 8:30 a.m. and return at 3:30 p.m. The cost is $8 plus lunch nearby.
- Thursday, June 9: “Arabian Nights with Lola” bellydancing extraordinaire at Island Terrace, Lakeville; Leave at 1 p.m., return at 4 p.m. Free.
- Friday, June 10: Shopping at Clinton Crossings Premium Outlets in Connecticut with lunch nearby. Leave at 8 a.m. and return at 5 p.m.
- Sunday June 12: Rhode Island National Guard Open House and Air Show in Quonset, Rhode Island with lunch nearby; Leave at 8 a.m., return at 4 p.m. Free.
- Wednesday, June 15: Elder Abuse Prevention Conference at Bristol Community College, Fall River. Leave at 7:45 a.m. and return at 1:15 p.m. All are welcome.
- Tuesday, June 21: Rose Gardens at Elizabeth Park, Hartford, Connecticut with lunch there. Leave at 8 a.m., return at 4 p.m. Free admission.
- Friday, June 24: Newport Flower Show at Rosecliffe. Leave at 9 a.m. and return at 3 p.m. Eat lunch nearb. The cost is $25.
- Sunday, June 26: The Vintage Bazarre in Salisbury with more than 175 vendors. Leave at 8:30 a.m., return at 5 p.m.
Jazz band Concert and intergenerational BBQ
On Monday, June 6 there will be a jazz concert at 11 a.m. followed by a BBQ lunch at noon. Under the direction of Chris Williamson, the Rochester Memorial School students will perform their annual spring concert. Call 508-763-8723 in advance to reserve a place and for a ride. Ther is a suggested $4 donation per person for lunch.
Meet the senator
Sen. Michael Rodrigues holds office hours at the Senior Center on the fourth Wednesday of every month from 12 to 2 p.m. Drop in to speak with him or his office aid.
Senior bowling league
The bowling league meets in Mattapoisett every Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. New bowlers of all skill levels are welcome.
Volunteer website guru needed
A volunteer is needed to update the Council on Aging’s website on a monthly and/or regular basis. Call Director Sharon Lally if interested at 508-763-8723.
ZUMBA Gold
ZUMBA® Gold classes, with instructor Pati Cautillo, will be held on Mondays from 3 to 4 p.m. ZUMBA Gold for active older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba class that recreates the original moves at a lower intensity. The design of the class introduces easy-to-follow choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination. This is a punch card class paid directly to instructor. Punch cards are $20 for five classes. No advance sign-up is necessary.
Functional Fitness class
On Tuesdays, June 7, 14 and 28, from 10 to 11 a.m., personal instructor Tammy Webster will lead the Functional Fitness Class. The class will increase muscle and core strength, and improve balance, endurance and rehabilitate old and new injuries.
The donation is $5 per class/$30 for a six-week session. The first six weeks ends on June 14. The second session starts June 28. A full six weeks is best to see results. Pre-registration is requested by calling the Senior Center at 508-763-8723. This is a high energy, fast paced class. Anyone is welcome.
Monthly Programs at the Rochester Senior Center:
- The Pampered Chef, Linda Medeiros, returns on Monday, June 13 at 11:30 a.m. for a cooking demonstration. Stay for the lunch at 12 p.m., to sample the results. Attendance at the demo is not required to partake in the lunch. There is no charge for the program, but donations are accepted. Call in advance to sign up and a ride.
- Barbeque will be served on Mondays at noon. There is a suggested $4 donation. Pre-registration is recommended.
- Congregate Lunches: Hot meals for seniors will be served on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. at the Senior Center. A donation of $2 per meal is suggested. Call the Senior Center at least one day in advance to reserve a meal. This is operated by the federally funded Coastline Elderly and is catered by Bateman. All older adults are welcome.
Weekly Classes/Programs
- Chair yoga – Mondays, 1 to 2 p.m.; $3 suggested donation
- Scrabble – Tuesdays, 9 a.m.; free
- Blood pressure checks – Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Congregate lunches (from Coastline Elderly) – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 11:30 a.m., $2 suggested donation per person, per day. 24-hour advanced is registration required. Call 508-763-8723 to sign-up.
- Ye Olde Breakfast Shoppe is open for business Mondays through Fridays, 7 to 9 a.m. Anyone of any age and any town is welcome.
- New release DVD movies are shown on Fridays at 1:30 p.m. Anyone is welcome to attend this free event. Call by Wednesday to find out what movie will be playing that Friday. Movies are received through Netflix.
- Stepping and stretching exercise program – Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1 to 2 p.m.
- Hand and foot card games – Thursdays at 9 a.m.
- Bingo – Wednesday 12:30 to 3 p.m.; Monday, 6 to 8:30 p.m.
- Busy Bees Craft Group – Thursdays 9 to 11:30 a.m., free
- Line dancing – Tuesdays 2:15 to 4 p.m. and Friday 9:30 to 11 a.m.; $2
