A rebuttal to 'backwater politics'

Jul 6, 2016

Letter to the Editor:

Doesn’t anyone care about autistic or blind or special needs kids anymore?

Having witnessed a public meeting of the Rochester Zoning Board recently, all I can say is what a joke! All the abutters got to speak as long as they wanted. But as soon as a very few speaking for the Wellspring Farm Learning Center made some very strong and valid points in support of the place, the meeting chair noticing a change in the energy at the meeting, shut it down. He knew the people he was orchestrating the meeting for were losing the focus from the crowd and cut off many of the pro-Wellspring people from speaking. The whole thing was a sham, a backwater politics display of clear and simple injustice to the good and kind, and what appeared to be a backroom, behind the scenes, prearranged, stomping of the most wonderful thing that ever happened to the kids involved.

The rich and spoiled using their influence, molded the event to destroy the operation, which in many documented cases, was the only hope for these children. It is the only method that was working to actually generate any progress or hope for the kids.

And unfounded complaints about non-existing traffic jams with phony bull about not being able to walk the street any more were all pre-rehearsed in order to undermine the amazing, wonderful work these people are doing, all in the cold-hearted spirit of snob zoning. Not in my backyard. I'm rich, do that someplace else. I can almost see the abutters stomping their feet and shouting “make it go away or else!”

Next meeting is July 14th at the Senior Center Rochester, MA.
