Reported fire at Nasketucket Bay State Reservation was false alarm, fire department says
MATTAPOISETT — A brush fire reported Saturday, Nov. 2 at Nasketucket Bay State Reservation turned out to be a false alarm, the Mattapoisett Fire Department said.
That evening, the department dispatched three fire engines and a forestry truck to Nasketucket Bay State Reservation after receiving reports of a brushfire. More than a dozen firefighters searched the 209 acres of the reservation, according to a news release.
“After an extensive examination of the area, it was confirmed that no active brushfire was found,” the release said.
Fire Chief Andrew Murray requested the assistance of the Mattapoisett Police Department’s drone unit due to the dry conditions and the severe current threat of forest fires.
“Utilizing advanced thermal imaging technology, the police drone conducted a detailed aerial survey of the landscape, providing crucial support to the command post and ground operations,” the release said. “The results further substantiated that there was no ongoing fire threat.”
The incident was classified as a “good intent call,” and the fire department thanked the community for its “vigilance” and urged future incidents to be reported promptly by everyone, according to the release.
