Retiring principal recognized by Marion School Committee

Jun 12, 2019

MARION — In keeping with Old Rochester Regional School District tradition, the Marion School committee honored retiring principal of Sippican School, Evelyn Rivet on Wednesday, June 12.

Retiring educators are recognized by their school committee with a book meant to represent their contributions to the school system. After they have a chance to read the book, it is added to the school library with recognition to the educator on the inside cover.

The Marion School Committee presented Rivet with The Day You Begin, written by Jaqueline Woodson and illustrated by Rafael Lopez, as well as photographs from “Vocabulary Day” at the school. Rivet was also recognized by Volunteers at Sippican Elementary (V.A.S.E) with the book The Good Egg by Jory John and Pete Oswald.

The administrator also received certificates from the Massachusetts State Senate and House of Representatives acknowledging her dedication to education in the commonwealth.

Rivet has worked at Sippican School since 2000, starting out as a reading teacher and then assistant principal, before becoming the school’s principal in 2010.

She said that she could not have done the job alone, and had a strong team of teachers and administrators working with her, but that she will miss the students of Sippican School most of all.

“The children make the difference, and everyday is special because of them,” she said.

Other retiring educators received books in their honor earlier this month. Thomas Kinsky was recognized by the Rochester School committee on June 6 for his 20 years of teaching at Rochester Memorial School. Dr. Elise Frangos was recognized by the School committees of Mattapoisett, Rochester, and Marion for her contributions as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum Instruction and Assessment for the Old Rochester Regional School District.
