Rochester applies for IT, open space grants
Town Administrator Mike McCue reported that the town has applied for four grants, three from the A.D. Makepeace Company and one from the state.
On Monday, McCue said he sought a grant for $37,000 from the state to upgrade the town’s email system.
“Currently the email system, as is a lot of the other IT equipment, is outdated and sorely in need of an update,” McCue told Selectmen.
The money is part of $2 million the state has made available to cities and towns for technology upgrades.
The other grants would be available through the A.D. Makepeace Neighborhood Fund. Grants are awarded for projects that benefit the residents of Carver, Plymouth, Rochester and Wareham.
In Rochester’s case, the town is seeking money for a thermal imaging system for Fire Department and the Country Fair.
“The equipment we have now, while functioning, is outdated,” McCue said.
Also, the Conservation Commission is seeking a grant to improve walking trails near property it owns on Mary’s Pond.
The deadline to apply for the Makepeace grants is March 7.
