Rochester assessors propose small tax rate increase

Mar 17, 2015

The tax rate for fiscal year 2015 will increase slightly for property owners and businesses the Board of Assessors said on Monday night.

Assessors informed Selectmen that the rate would be $14.07 for every $1,000 of a property’s assessed value.

The new rate is an increase of 1.6 percent compared to the previous fiscal year.

Selectmen also voted to continue assessing all property classes at the same level. The single rate applies to property located in commercial, industrial and residential zones.

Board of Assessors Chair John Mello said the total value of property in town increased 2.4 percent from fiscal year 2014.

“We’re starting to see improvement,” Mello said. “The real estate market is starting to appreciate in value.”

The new value is approximately $800 million.
