Rochester Board of Selectmen discuss short, long-term goals

Sep 21, 2020

ROCHESTER — Public safety was a main concern at the Board of Selectmen meeting on Sept. 21, with Chairperson Paul Ciaburri saying “continuing that process is absolutely one of my goals.”

He said public safety was an important preventative measure “so we’re ready for things like this covid and who knows what else.”

The board also discussed reinstating a $3,500 allotment within the Town Clerk’s budget for the archival of documents.

“It would be nice to go back to doing that,” Ciaburri said.

Ciaburri said many of the town’s older documents are in bad shape, and in need of strong archival.

Board Clerk Woody Hartley asked the board whether it would be more efficient to simply digitize the old documents, but Ciaburri said physical copies seemed to be standard.

“From what I understand, this is the way to do the documents so they’re good for a long, long time.”

The discussion led to another issue: Storage of documents.

“We don’t have any storage in Rochester,” he said, adding that it was an issue the board needed to address in “the very near future.”

The board members also said they would continue to discuss working on buildings like the fire and police stations, as well as the annex.

The board will also work to finish writing bylaws which are already in progress and put them online, and “continue setting policies that meet the needs of the taxpayers,” Ciaburri said.
