Rochester celebrates new playground with ribbon cutting

Sep 10, 2013

On Monday, everyone from Old Rochester Regional District Superintendent Doug White to students still learning their ABCs attended the ceremony for Rochester’s new playground.

A community effort, the playground was built in a single day this summer with volunteers. Over the past few years, many donated funds for building materials.

Parents Donna Forcier and Erin Bednarczyk, who established the Rochester Memorial School Playground Committee, accepted flowers on behalf of Craig Davignon and Kevin Woodward. The two Rochester faculty members also had a hand in raising the $31,000 needed to design and construct the playground.

“It takes a village to get something like this built,” Davignon said. “We had tons of people step forward to help.”

ORR senior administrators, playground volunteers, School Committee members, parents, and children cut three ribbons placed throughout the playground for the occasion.

New Rochester Principal Derek Medeiros welcomed and thanked everyone for their efforts.

After the brief ceremony, the children present handed in the scissors and wasted no time in testing out the equipment.
