Rochester Country Fairground work begins

Jul 24, 2011

Work for the Rochester Country Fairgrounds is already underway according to committee spokesman Dave Souza. With preliminary plans drawn up and mowing started, Souza believes the grounds will be a great location.

“Right now we’re just trying to get a lay of the land," said Souza. "There are a lot of things we’d like to do differently this year, but there’s so much work to do and we want to do it as inexpensively as possible.”

The fair, which will be held on Pine Street next year, will be held this year at the Dexter Lane Recreation Park as a one-day Family Fun event August 21. A 1960s-themed parade kicks off the show, followed by features such as live music, a chainsaw artist and the Rochester Police Brotherhood’s golf ball drop.

Souza said layouts of next year’s fair would be discussed at a committee meeting next week. Once the plans are finalized work can continue, but Souza also said the committee is looking for volunteers to help.

“We’re looking for all available hands,” he said. “Old Colony Vocational School is getting involved with a lot of the electrical work. We just want to get in and get going as soon as possible.”
