Rochester police have identified the victims in a serious motorcycle crash as Acushnet residents Shawn Carvalho and Kriss Lopes.

Police said Carvalho, 25, was operating the motorcycle when he lost control on Rounseville Road near the Mattapoisett River at approximately 8 p.m. on Aug. 5.

After an investigation, police determined Carvalho tried to negotiate the turn at a high speed when he and Lopes, 25, were thrown off the moving bike. Both live on Middle Road in Acushnet.

One of the victims was taken by ambulance to Tobey Hospital in Wareham and then transported by helicopter to Tufts Medical Center in Boston.  The second victim was treated at Rhode Island Hospital.

Police charged Carvalho with operating under the influence of liquor with serious injury resulting, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and improper safety equipment. He will be summonsed to Wareham District Court. According to police, Lopes remains hospitalized in critical condition with head and other injuries.
