Rochester Fire Department extinguishes house fire

ROCHESTER — Rochester Fire Department called in mutual aid to quickly extinguish a a house fire on the afternoon of March 1.

The homeowner at 17 Sylvia Street in Rochester called the Fire Department at 4:22 p.m. to report his house was full of smoke.

The fire was located mainly in the basement, though it reached some of the first floor. Mattapoisett Fire Department and Marion Fire Department sent engines to the scene and Marion Fire sent an engine to cover the Rochester station. Rochester also requested tankers from Acushnet and Freetown to assist with water supply.

The fire was knocked down and called under control by 4:52 p.m., though fire units remained on the scene for a little longer to make sure that all hot spots were extinguished.
