Rochester Historical Society cancels summer museum dates

Jul 8, 2020
ROCHESTER — The historical society will cancel most to all of its event this summer, but may tentatively resume with events this fall.

Historical society board members voted on July 7 to cancel the remaining monthly speakers for 2020. It will also cancel its July ice cream social and the potluck supper and Annual meeting in November.

Its exhibit, “Rochester's Notable People — Past and Present” is  currently on display at the museum, but it will not be open for normal hours, even though museums are allowed to open as of July 6. The board discussed opening the museum for one Saturday in August to allow history enthusiasts to see the exhibit before it changes, but did not make a decision.

The museum still plans to run an exhibit highlighting items that have been donated to the museum in the fall, but has not yet determined when the new exhibit will reopen.

Because the Rochester Country Fair is cancelled for this year, the historical society will lose a significant part of its funds for this year, and may need to get creative with fundraising.
