Rochester homeowner chases, captures thief
A robber in Rochester was no match for the homeowner who caught him in the act.
On Sunday at approximately 5:40 p.m. Rochester Police responded to a residence on Mary's Pond Road for a breaking and entering in progress. Upon arrival, with the assistance of the homeowner, officers arrested 27-year-old David Breton Jr. of Cornell Street, New Bedford.
The homeowner told police that when he got home he noticed a screen window in the front of his house had been broken. While inside the house, the resident heard a noise coming from another room. The homeowner went to investigate the sound and found Breton, who was dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants and black shoes, in his house. The homeowner confronted Breton, who jumped from a window onto the lawn. The homeowner then chased him through the yard and was able to detain him until officers arrived on scene, according to police
While still at the house, Breton told police that he parked his car around the corner and then broke into the home, police said. He was transported to the Rochester Police Station for booking.
Breton was arraigned Monday morning at Wareham District Court on charges of breaking and entering in the night time, malicious destruction of property over $250, disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct.
