Rochester illuminates holiday season at annual tree lighting
Santa’s reindeer had Monday night off as the jolly old elf arrived for Rochester’s annual tree lighting ceremony aboard the Fire Department’s new ladder truck.
The event featured performances by Rochester Memorial School’s band and chorus as well as refreshments inside Town Hall following the festivities.
Selectman Naida Parker praised the many people and organizations that made the evening a success.
She noted that donations included cookies from the Artisan Bake Shop, apple cider from Lloyd’s Market and a gift certificate prize from Matt’s Blackboard Cafe.
Parker also thanked the Police, Fire and Highway Departments for their services.
Police Chief Paul Magee and other officers directed traffic to ensure revelers crossed Route 105 safely.
Magee said many residents turned out for the event, which went off without any trouble.
“We had a great turnout this year,” he said.
Town Administrator Mike McCue thanked Administrative Assistant Amanda Baptiste for her assistance.
In the days leading up to the event, she adorned Town Hall walls with holiday posters created by fifth grade students at Rochester Memorial School.
“She did a wonderful job decorating,” McCue said.
