Rochester Memorial School holds colorful art night

May 27, 2016

This year the students at Rochester Memorial School made everything from Picasso to pop art-inspired pieces. Their artwork was on display Thursday night for the school's annual art show.

Art teacher Joanne Smith said the show is important for the kids and their family and friends.

"It brings the community together. It's so nice to see the families come out," she said.

The art projects displayed around the school reflected a number of styles, and Smith said she and her students studied famous artists to look at what inspired them before before they created their own work.

"I do change it up every year," said Smith, who added surrealism to the curriculum this year. "I don't like to do the same thing all the time."

Kids made 3D pop art, abstract wall hangings and Georgia O'Keeffe-inspired flower paintings, to name a few.
