Rochester native headed to U.S. Paralympic Championships

Rochester native Joshua Winsper has qualified to compete at the 2017 U.S. Paralympics Track & Field National Championships, according to a press release from Bridgewater State College.

Competing in the F41 classification, Winsper hit U.S. National qualifying standards in both the javelin and shot put.

Winsper, who is a freshman at Bridgewater State University, posted his top mark in the javelin, 87 feet, eight inches (26.72m), at the season-opening Bridgewater State Bears Invitational on March 25. He recorded his season-best distance of 29 feet, six inches (8.99m) in the shot put at the New England Alliance Championships on April 29.

The 2017 U.S. Paralympics Track & Field National Championships will serve as the primary selection event for the World Championships and Junior World Championships Team Selection. The championships will take place from June 2 - 4 on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles, California.

The top ranked athletes from the competition will represent Team USA at the World Para Athletics Championships London 2017 or the World Para Athletics Junior Championships Nottwil (Switzerland) 2017 events.
