Rochester Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that occurred the morning of Friday, July 19.

While on patrol, Sgt. Pamela Canney discovered a vehicle with heavy front-end damage that was pulled off the side of the road in the 400 block of Rounseville Rd, according to police.

Canney observed smoke and flames coming from under the hood of the damaged vehicle. Sgt. Canney assisted the driver out of the vehicle.

The 22-year-old female operator who was from Lakeville said she was unaware of what she had hit or where the crash occurred.

Police located the crash site about a quarter of a mile from the Rochester Congregational Church. The vehicle had crossed over the oncoming traffic lane, driven off the road, and collided with a steel guide wire, according to police.

The vehicle also damaged a 35-foot long section of lawn. Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, said police.
