Rochester recognizes fallen veterans with Memorial Day service
ROCHESTER – After two years of canceled services, Rochester residents gathered in the lawn in front of Town Hall on Sunday, May 29, to honor their town’s fallen veterans this Memorial Day weekend.
Select Board member Brad Morse described the ceremony as “small, but the last couple years, we haven’t had it at all, so we’re working back to what we used to do.”
To begin, Molly Wronski from Project 351 read the Governor’s Proclamation for Memorial Day. Project 351 is an independent nonprofit organization that encourages leadership and service among youth.
Afterward, Audrey Blanchard, an Eagle Scout from Troop 31, read the Gettysburg Address.
To conclude the afternoon, the Select Board read the names of every veteran from the town of Rochester, dating back to the Civil War.
Church bells rang loudly in the background throughout the ceremony, about which Morse joked, “So, we did still have music this year after all.”
