Rochester searching for 2 community members for new opioid task force

Oct 22, 2024

ROCHESTER — The Rochester Select Board is in search of two community members to serve on the newly formed town Opioid Settlement Fund Allocation Committee.

The committee was formed on Monday, Oct. 21 and will feature five members. Town Administrator Cameron Durant, Police Chief Michael Assad and Public Health Nurse Connie Dolan will serve on the committee.

The last two spots on the board will be filled by Rochester residents.

One of these members should be someone who has been personally affected by the opioid crisis, said Durant.

The purpose of the committee is to ensure that the town’s opioid settlement funds are being used appropriately.

In 2021 and 2022, then Massachusetts Attorney General and now Governor Maura Healey announced multiple resolutions that provided state municipalities with funds to go towards opioid use disorder prevention, harm reduction, treatment and recovery.

According to Durant, the town currently has $65,000 in opioid settlement funds.
