Rochester singer Jennel Garcia advances on 'X Factor'
Thousands auditioned and 18-year-old Jennel Garcia is now one of 16 remaining finalists on FOX's reality talent show "The X Factor."
This week, the top talent was picked after baseball playoff games had delayed the show from airing for more than a week.
The big prize? The winner receives a $5 million recording contract.
A rock star in training, Garcia recently performed "Sweeter" by Gavin DeGraw which garnered her praise from the judges.
"You got to take the risks," Garcia said before the audition. "Sometimes they don't work and sometimes they do. This is definitely something I can learn from."
Fellow contestant and Rochester native Jillian Jensen was not one of the finalists chosen last week. Before the finalists were named, Jensen said she looked forward to moving ahead but was also just grateful for the experience.
“I’m just letting what will be happen,” Jensen said. “At the end of the day all you can do is your best. It’s not worth making yourself crazy.”
