Rochester student receives college scholarship for softball
Recent Old Rochester Regional graduate Nara Underhill was recently chosen as one of 19 softball players to receive the Sweet Sixteen Scholarship at the 2016 PONY East Zone Nationals.
PONY, which stands for Protecting Our Nation's Youth, awarded Underhill with $2,000.
Underhill, a Rochester resident, received the honor after participating in the July 21 to 24 tournament with the Bay State Sharks u18 traveling team in Sterling, Virginia.
Recent high school softball players were invited to apply for the scholarship. Of the 1,000 girls in the tournament, 65 met the criteria for the scholarship and 19 were ultimately chosen.
Underhill's scholarship will go toward her tuition as she matriculates to Bridgewater State University and Franklin Pierce University to study early childhood education and physical therapy this fall.
