Rochester welcomes new police officer
ROCHESTER — A new face is lacing up his boots and joining the Rochester Police Department, just in time for spring.
Officer Collin Leddin was appointed as a full-time member of the police department during a March 20 meeting of the Rochester Select Board.
According to Rochester Police Chief Robert Small, Leddin is filling a vacancy left by a retirement on the force.
“We went through a couple of cycles in the interview process,” said Small. “[Leddin] will certainly lighten the load on some of the other officers.”
Leddin, who grew up in Pembroke, served seven years as a corrections officer with the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Rochester Police Department, Leddin “began [a] 12 week field training program” last week.
This program will train Leddin to “professionally and effectively enforce laws, proactively engage with the community, and ensure the safety of [Rochester] residents,” wrote the Rochester Police Department in a Facebook post.
“I’m happy to be here,” said Leddin. “I’m happy to get started.”
