Route 6 speeding analysis could become reality
A previously-discussed Route 6 traffic study may be a real possibility, according to Marion Town Administrator Paul Dawson.
On Tuesday night, Dawson told the Marion Board of Selectman that Marion Master Plan Traffic Subcommittee member Jennifer Francis is working with the Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District (shortened to a much more user-friendly SRPEDD) to develop the possible study.
The analysis would study all of Route 6 from the Mattapoisett town line to the Wareham town line, and would mainly investigate traffic calming.
"SRPEDD does have surplus money, and is willing to take the project on at no cost to the town," Dawson explained. "All that would be required is that the Board of Selectmen send a letter to SRPEDD requesting the funds."
"Mattapoisett is looking at doing a similar study as well," pointed out Selectman Jody Dickerson. "We should send a letter jointly. It might look better."
Dickerson also pointed out that the last time road improvements were done on Route 6 was sometime in the 1980s.
Dawson agreed to get in touch with Mattapoisett Town Administrator Michael Gagne in order to draft a joint letter.
