School budget 'summit' set for fall
Looking to learn from the past, municipal governments, school officials, and elected leaders across the tri-town will hold a “summit” on the Old Rochester Regional School district’s budget.
“I think having an open ended dialogue, between all the parties, will inform everybody of the individual issues on both sides of government,” Marion Town Administrator Paul Dawson said at the board's Tuesday night meeting.
Differences between proposed state budgets this winter forced district officials to grapple with school state aid figures that were less than expected. Dawson said Marion’s minimum contribution would rise by $18,000 to address the change.
Last week, Dawson said he met with district Superintendent Doug White, and Mattapoisett and Rochester Town Administrators to discuss a change in the minimum contribution the towns pay the district each year.
Dawson said a meeting will be scheduled early this fall to discuss school funding. The regional school committee will be on hand to talk about changes to the formula that determines each town's minimum contribution.
