School Committee discusses potential state transportation cuts
Superintendent Doug White is keeping a close watch on a proposal from former Gov. Deval Patrick to cut 9c regional transportation funds to help account for a multi-million dollar budget shortfall.
If approved, the cuts would put a six-figure dent in school district's bus budget.
“We’re expecting a decent amount of money to come in to offset our regional transportation in the realm of $450,000,” White told the Old Rochester Regional School Committee on Wednesday. “If the cuts come in, we could potentially lose $107,000, which would be an impact to our budget immediately.”
It’s still unclear what newly sworn in Gov. Charlie Barker will do, but in the meantime, the Massachusetts Association of Regional Schools is looking to employ legal counsel. The organization, of which the ORR District is a part, maintains that the 9c cuts would be illegal.
On Wednesday, the School Committee approved the use of about $500 towards the legal investigation.
