Schools to expect reduced USDA funding during shutdown

Oct 10, 2013

The government shutdown has left many feeling queasy over the past week, and now it may now be hitting students in the stomach.

Old Rochester Regional Food Services Director Caitlin Meagher said funding from the USDA for the primary and secondary cafeterias will be effected until the government is back up and running.

Meagher said the funding for September, approximately $19,000, has been paid.

“We are to expect limited funding starting in October,” she said. “We are largely funded by the USDA. I have no idea how limited or how they will prioritize funds."

Meagher will notify the school committees when more information is available.
