Selectmen approve water ban exceptions

Sep 21, 2016

Marion Selectmen granted exceptions to the water ban at Tuesday’s meeting, decided how to deal with a surplus fire engine and continued the public hearing for the application of an aquaculture license near Meadow Island until Oct. 18.

The town received six letters asking for exceptions to the mandatory water ban issued last week. Selectmen discussed reasons for giving exceptions, such as newly sodded grass that was put down before the ban was in effect.

Selectman Steve Gonsalves was strongly in favor of the board taking the time to consider the requests, as he is in the “green industry” as well.

“I would hope we would look at those situations and, within reason, grant some exceptions,” he said.

The board agreed and expressed hope that, with the rain from this week and the cooler weather coming, the town’s drought woes would soon come to an end.

The Selectmen will meet next with department heads for the quarterly meeting on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Music Hall.
