Selectmen praise and appoint school board members
Selectmen reappointed a member of the Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School Committee and said farewell to an outgoing member of the Rochester School Committee on Monday evening.
The Old Colony appointing authority, which is comprised of Selectmen, Rochester Memorial School Committee representatives and Town Moderator Greenwood Hartley III, unanimously approved Michael Gagliardi to that board.
Gagliardi has had a long career at New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School and is currently the career and technical education principal there.
“I’d like to give back in a way that best serves my town,” Gagliardi said when he was first appointed.
Before the vote, Selectmen Chair Naida Parker singled out Rochester School Committee Chair Michelle Cusolito for three years of service to the town.
Selectmen and the School Committee butted heads often this year, usually over the school’s finances.
This winter, Cusolito announced she will not seek re-election to the committee.
Parker noted Cusolito worked hard and always had the town’s best interest in mind.
“You’ve been chairman through a very difficult year, and I know you’ve tried very hard. It must have been frustrating. We appreciate your work on the School Committee...and for all of the work you’ve done on behalf of the town’s children,” Parker said.
Appreciative of the comment, Cusolito said: “Thank you for saying so.”
