Study the history of chowdah.

Robert Cox will dish out the history, flavors and significance of every New Englander’s favorite comfort food, chowder, at a talk on September 24, 12:30 p.m. A special lunch of, what else but clam chowder, will be served at 11:30 a.m. Reservations required. Call (508) 748 3570 to register.

Meet the Friends.

Meet the members of the nonprofit Friends of the Council on Aging, whow help support programs and activities for the town's seniors, at the Friends' annual meeting on September 26, 5-7 p.m. at the Benjamin D. Cushing Community Center. RSVP by calling (508) 748-3570.

Get expert grocery shopping advice.

Shop with a registered dietitian from Community Nurse on September 27, 9:30 a.m. at the Wareham Shaw’s. Transportation can be provided by calling the Council on Aging. To register, call (508) 717-0714.

Take in some art.

Take a trip to New Bedford to see the famed Panorama of a Whaling Voyage ‘Round the World, September 18, 9:30 a.m. The trip will include a stop at Carmine’s for lunch. The exhibit is free but the cost of lunch is not covered. Call (508) 748-3570 to register.

Shop for furniture.

Take a trip to Ikea and Trader Joe’s in Avon on September 25, 10 a.m. Sign-ups begin Septembre 11. Call (508) 748-3570 to sign up.

Wellness events.

A public health nurse will be available on Wednesdays, 10:3 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Health consultations and education, blood pressure monitoring, and adult vaccinations are offered.

There will be a flu clinic on September 25, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. The date is subject to change depending on when vaccines are available. Call (508) 748-3570 to confirm the date in advance.
