Shop for the holidays, help out tri-town non-profits

There are many chances to shop for gifts and other holiday treats in the tri-town this month before stockings are stuffed and presents wrapped. See them here or online at sippicanweektoday.com/calendar. 

Saturday, Dec. 7

Go to a church fair.

The Mattapoisett Congregational Church Holiday Fair will be at the church at 27 Church Street from 9 a.m. to noon. The event includes entrees, baked goods, hand-knit items, a jewelry boutique, raffles, silent auction items, greenery and more. 

Celebrate by the sea.

St. Anthony’s Parish will host its Christmas by the Sea fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The church will have a variety of vendors, including arts and crafts, wreaths, a toy shop, and a unique Mattapoisett-themed Christmas ornament. 

There will be baked goods, raffles, a silent auction, a visit from Santa, and an all-cash raffle.Church cooks will offer malasadas and coffee, lunch items, or food to take home.

Support parents and teachers.

The Rochester Memorial School Parent Teacher Organization will hold its first Holiday Craft Fair at the school from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be vendors, a raffle, and snacks. Guests are encouraged to bring a new unwrapped toy, or non-perishable food item to help the Rochester Police Department fill a cruiser for families in need.

Fundraise at an open house.

Always in Bloom will host a Holiday Open House at 454 Wareham Road from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to fundraise for the Friends of Jack Foundation.

There will be boxwood trees, custom wreaths, and hostess or teacher gifts. The open house will be catered by On The Go, Artisan Bake, and Dunkin Donuts.

There will be two raffles for $200 gift certificates. Participants must pay $25, or bring a new stuffed animal for the Friends of Jack Foundation to enter.

Visit Plumb Library to shop.

The Friends of Plumb Library annual Holiday Fair will take place  from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the library at 17 Constitution Way, Rochester.The event will feature a silent auction, drawings, a bake sale, the Rochester Historical Society's table, a visit from Santa Paws from 10 a.m. to noon, and a visit from Nancy Cote, who will have copies of her "Frozen II" book for sale and signing from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Shop with the Mattapoisett Museum.

The Mattapoisett Museum will host its annual Holiday Arts & Craft Fair at 5 Church Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Selections include art, notecards, candles, bath bombs, woolens, photography, jewelry, ceramics, leather goods, ornaments and more. For more information call 508-758-2844. 

Sunday, Dec. 8

Go on a Stroll through holiday shops.

The annual Marion Village Christmas Stroll will be 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m, and include many local vendors. 

Saturday, Dec. 14.

Go to a holiday boutique.

The Marion Garden Group will hold its Holiday Boutique from 9 a.m. to noon at the Marion Music Hall. The group encourages shoppers to come early, as popular items often sell out quickly. Items start at low at $3 and the group now accepts credit cards.

Buy cookies.

The First Congregational Church will host a Holiday Luncheon and Cookie Walk from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 

Door prizes will be offered. Lunch features the church’s hot chicken salad, with cranberry compote, breads, beverages and cheesecake, and costs $10. Tickets will be available at the door.

A cookie walk will be held at the same time. Church bakers will offer holiday cookies boxes. Cookies cost $10 per dozen.

Both events will be held on the second floor of The First Congregational Church Community Center, 144 Front Street. The building has a stairlift.

For those that need a babysitter...

The First Congregational Church of Rochester, 11 Constitution Way in Rochester, will feed and entertain children for free from 5 to 8 p.m. so that adults can Christmas shop.  CORI checked adults and youth will provide dinner, crafts, and games. Call the church at 508-763-4314 to reserve a spot.
