Should Rochester adopt the Community Preservation Act?

Nov 8, 2013

To the editor,

At Special Town Meeting on Nov. 25 there will be an article on the warrant: Should Rochester adopt the Community Preservation Act?

In talking to town residents at the country fair and about town, many of them say how much they appreciate the rural character and history of Rochester. The Community Preservation Act offers the only way to establish a “savings account” that sets aside money year-to-year to accumulate for projects (that have been approved at town meeting) that preserve the historic buildings and documents, protect valuable open space and historic landscapes and build or maintain recreational facilities. Funds from the state will match a percentage of money the town sets aside, adding to the kitty each year.

I believe it is a good opportunity for us to help insure the character of our town will remain for many generations.

Please come to the Senior Center on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. to listen, ask questions, speak your mind. Then vote at Special Town Meeting on Nov. 24

Sincerely,

Norene Hartley,

Rochester
