Sippican Healthcare celebrates with visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus

Dec 22, 2015

Mr. and Mrs. Claus came to town early for the residents of the Sippican Healthcare Center who celebrated the holidays on Tuesday afternoon.

The Clauses (also known as Tom and Sheila Monaghan of West Wareham) wandered from room to room in the center’s first floor leading sing-a-longs of carols.

“They are great friends of Sippican Healthcare,” said Activities Director Anne O’Connell-Bishop. “The residents have really, really been looking forward to this. There’s been a lot of family involvement and people are coming out to celebrate with loved ones.”

In addition to the music, residents were treated to egg nog, h’ordeuvres and lunch.

Tom noted he and his wife’s services are in high demand this time of year. So far, they have performed at 25 different events and also work as Mr. and Mrs. Claus at Edaville Railroad.

Even with the busy schedule, Tom said they are glad to make time for Sippican Healthcare, where Sheila helps lead the center’s knitting group.

Connell-Bishop said Tuesday’s event capped a busy month of activities for residents who were visited by students from local elementary schools and the high school. Also, some members of the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra volunteered their time and talent for residents.

“A lot of people have called us offering to spend time with people to enrich their holiday,” Connell-Bishop said. “It’s been awesome.”
