Sippican Historical Society gives donation for Town House work

MARION — If all goes well, the renovation to the exterior of the Town House should be done by Thanksgiving.

Thanks to the donation of up to $250,000 from the Sippican Historical Society, the project will be moving along towards that goal.

“It’s a great place for us to be involved in the project,” Society President William Tifft said at a Aug. 8 Selectmen’s meeting.

The next phase of the project will focus on landscaping the front of the Town House, making it wheelchair accessible, and planting flowers to beautify the exterior and “bring it back to its 19th century grandeur.”

Town Administrator Jay McGrail thanked the society for helping the town “build something we’re proud of.”

Selectman John Waterman, who originally came up with the idea for the renovation, said it’s “really exciting that it’s all coming together.”

After the front is finished, the final piece is working on the Town Hall annex and trying to open up the front entrance, something the society said they would be willing to help with.
