MARION — Sippican School will be closed on Wednesday, May 24 due to a sprinkler malfunction that caused water damage in the school building.
According to a late-night email sent to parents and staff from Old Rochester Regional School District Superintendent Mike Nelson, the broken sprinkler was first reported around 8:12 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23.
“The Marion Fire Department quickly responded to the scene and was able to shut down a broken sprinkler on the second floor,” wrote Nelson.
According to the email, there is extensive water damage to rooms on the first and second floors of the building. There were no injuries.
“The district will provide further updates and guidance to families regarding the remainder of the school week,” wrote Nelson.
