Sippican School playing fields to be sprayed for ticks
With tick season here members of the Marion School Committee were pleased to accept a Rochester man’s offer to treat Sippican School playing fields with a natural insecticide.
On Wednesday, committee member Christine Marcolini said Ken Spencer approached her about spraying the fields at no cost to the school. Spencer operates a company that uses an all natural product to keep ticks at bay.
Facilities Director Gene Jones said Spencer is qualified to do the work, and the application will be made during a time when the fields aren’t in use. The spray’s main ingredients are peppermint and rosemary oils.
“In fact, you’ll get a light, minty smell when you go by the fields,” Jones said.
He estimated the cost of the work to be between $500 and $750.
“It is a very generous donation,” Marcolini said. “It’s something to help keep our kids healthy and safe.”
