Sippican School's multi-purpose room to get new sound system

An upgraded sound system is in the works for the Sippican School's multi-purpose room.

On Wednesday, the Marion School Committee approved a bid of $5,360 to install the sound system following the recommendation of Gene Jones, Facilities Director for the Old Rochester Regional schools.

“I think it’s worthwhile to approve,” Jones said. “It will enhance the multi-purpose room.”

Last month, Sippican School Band Director Hannah Moore requested that new energy-efficient equipment be installed to help cut down on utilities costs.

“We have a beautiful multi-purpose room, but the sound system and the light system is consuming an incredible amount of energy. It’s unmanageable. One of the amplifiers is also blown,” Moore said in January.

The new sound system will be installed soon. The School Committee unanimously approved that the funds for the new equipment be taken from the school's Rental Fund.
