Sippican Woman's Club to take New Bedford walking tour
On Thursday, Nov. 10, the Sippican Woman’s Club will take a walking tour down New Bedford’s historic County Street with local author and historian Peggi Medeiros.
Last year Medeiros presented a program to the club on her recently published book, “New Bedford Mansions.” A period that Medeiros described “as a time of unimaginable wealth, intellectual ferment and artistic treasures. It was a city of secrets that often became very public scandals that destroyed lives and families.”
The group will meet at 11:50 a.m. at the Landing Wharf parking lot across from the Music Hall and carpool departing at noon for The Wamsutta Club, 427 County St., New Bedford to have lunch (choice of half sandwich and soup or salad with chicken. Entrees will be served with desert and coffee/tea).
The cost is $15, payable to the Sippican Woman’s Club. Payment should be sent to Ellen Johnston, One Reservation Way, Marion, MA 02738 by Nov. 1. The walk with Medeiros will follow lunch.
Traditionally, the club meets on the second Friday of the month, September through March, with the annual meeting on the last Friday in April. Meetings are open to anyone who is interested. Most meetings are held at the clubhouse at 152 Front St., Marion. Non-members are charged a $5 guest fee.
