Sippican Women's Club to host local historian
The Sippican Women’s Club will host a return visit by Seth Mendell, local historian and Mattapoisett resident.
On Friday, Oct. 11, Mendell will trace the colorful history of the largest of the Elizabethan Islands Naushon - including the pirates of Tarpaulin Cove, the American Revolution, and the arrival of John Murray Forbes.
In a previous program Mendell spoke about Cuttyhunk’s history dating back to mariner Bartholmew Gosnold’s landing on the island in 1602.
The meeting will be held at Handy’s Tavern at 152 Front St., Marion starting at 12:30 p.m.
The program is preceded by a finger-food luncheon with coffee, tea, and a sweet, followed by a short business meeting.
Guests are welcome to attend. Membership in the Sippican Women’s Club is open to any resident of Marion or whose interests are in Marion.
