WITH SLIDESHOW: Harbor Days welcomes artisans to Mattapoisett

Jul 21, 2012

With day number two of the 26th annual Harbor Days event underway, dozens of vendors, craft makers and sweets sellers set up shop in Mattapoisett’s Shipyard Park on Saturday, July 21.

For the vendors, Harbor Days, sponsored by the town’s Lions Club, is an event they block out in their calendars early.

“For a little local show, the Lions Club does a fabulous job,” said Ellen Sullivan of Harwich.

Sullivan brought her mermaid, seahorse and ballerina decorations made from copper to the show, which she has been attending for the past 13 years.

With the warm weather holding out, Sullivan said this year’s Harbor Days have been better than ever.

“Most shows like these are dying,” she said. “But it’s a beautiful day. They have entertainment, great food, and music – something to do all day. I love coming here.”

Erika Hamer of the Busy Bee in Dartmouth agreed.

“The music, the crafters, the food – it’s all very good,” Hamer said.

With some returning veterans, this year’s Harbor Days welcomed a few newcomers to the annual event.

Bernadette Henry of Cape Neddick, Maine brought her glass and clay garden art pieces to the show for the first time.

“I love to try new shows and this year it was time to go to new area. The crowds here have been great,” Henry said.
