WITH SLIDESHOW: Taste of the Tri-Town returns to Mattapoisett
A little wine, some good food and jazz music can go along way for education.
On Friday, the Mattapoisett YMCA welcomed back the fourth annual Taste of the Tri-Town, hosted by the Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts.
Complete with a wine tasting and a variety of foods from local restaurants and eateries, the fundraiser serves to promote local school projects and students.
All of the money raised through ticket sales and raffles goes toward the local schools through the Lighthouse Fund of the Old Rochester Tri-Town Education Foundation.
“It was a way to get the knowledge out about the education foundation and a great way to get everyone out at the same time,” said Deb Martin, one of the organizers of the event.
As for the food, Martin said she couldn’t ask for a better sampling.
“The restaurants are awesome,” she said. “They’re very cooperative every year. We ask that they give us 50 pieces of anything, we pick it up and it’s always a fun variety.”
This year included lobster rolls from Oxford Creamery, crab rangoons from the Ming Dynasty in Mattapoisett, desserts from Rose and Vicki’s in Marion and more.
While the guests dined, local Old Rochester Regional High School students brought the entertainment with a jazz band
“It’s just amazing the talent that comes out of the school system,” Martin said.
The jazz trio, which consists of ORR juniors Jared Tyndall, Matthew Pereira and senior Mike Bliss, volunteered to play the event.
“We started playing together a few years ago – standard jazz numbers,” Bliss said. “We appreciate every opportunity to play.”
