Solar array set to power up

Apr 1, 2015

Following the installation of new electrical poles and wires, the Sippican Community Solar Garden is nearing completion.

“Despite the poor weather conditions…we are pleased with the remarkable progress this winter,” said Luke Hinkle, manager and founder of My Generation Energy, Inc.

The Brewster-based solar energy and installation development company will manage the garden, located on a 5.9-acre lot on County Road. The transformer and other electrical components will be connected on April 7.

The solar panel array will be finished on April 10. With 3,000 solar panels, the garden will produce a little less then one megawatt of electricity.

Hinkle said the system is on schedule to start producing electricity by the end of this month. Those who are eligible may purchase Sunrights, essentially an electric credit, from My Generation Energy.

Hinkle said there has been a lot of interest from residents in participating in the Sippican Community Solar Garden.

Between the number of people already signed up and those asking to reserve spots, the total exceeds the number of available Sunrights.

There is still time to apply.  The deadline to enroll is April 10 at 5 p.m.
