Spandex clad teens draw attention in Mattapoisett
Teenagers dressed in colorful spandex suits reminiscent of the “Blue Man Group” were an unusual and at times unnerving sight in Mattapoisett on Thursday, Sept. 26.
Several people reported seeing the boys whose outfits were in “M&M colors,” ie. red, blue, and green.Their exact number is unclear. One woman said she saw three or four of the teens at Town Wharf, while another person said there were six or seven.
“We’re not sure why they were dressed up,” said Police Chief Mary Lyons.
Lyons said police officers were called to the Village Court housing development after members of the group began knocking on doors. Officers spoke with the boys, who are said to be local, and they left the premises. No further action was taken.
The police were not made aware of any other incidents of the group disturbing the piece, said Lyons.
Others did say the group made some noise at a local business. They are also said to have bothered some children at an elementary school playground before parents shooed them away.
Additionally, the youth rode their bikes to Town Wharf.
Harbormaster Jill Simmons saw the boys and said their outfits covered their faces, but they didn’t bother anyone.
“They were definitely bizarre,” said Simmons. “I don’t know what that was all about.”
