St. Gabriel’s Church counts down to Christmas with Advent wreaths

MARION — ‘Tis the season.

Congregants of St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church in Marion got together after services last Sunday, Nov. 28 to make Advent wreaths to celebrate the run up to Christmas.

An advent wreath is a circle of greenery with 4 candles. The candles represent the four Sundays leading up to Christmas.

As it was the first Sunday of advent, the congregation lit the first candle. An additional candle is lit each new Sunday to celebrate Advent.

While the Advent wreath is used at the church every year, Father Eric Fialho thought it would be nice for members of the church to make their own wreaths to celebrate the advent season at home this year.

The Church is also holding a series of events throughout Advent that can be found here.
