Students become owl diet detectives in museum workshop

Feb 21, 2024

MARION — It wasn’t a typical Valentine’s Day for students in the Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group. Instead of making Valentines cards the group dissected owl pellets during a workshop on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

The students located skulls, both rodent and avian, and other assorted bones, according to the Marion Natural History Museum. After identification and close inspection under microscopes, these finds were then mounted on project boards to bring home.

Tabor Academy student volunteers Camden Jeppsin, Eddy Yeon, Noah Divon, Ryan Francis, and Sulaiman Al Harthy helped Marion Natural History Museum students with this project, according to the museum.
