Students inducted into National Honor Society

May 5, 2014

On April 29, 55 Old Rochester Regional High School juniors and seniors were honored with induction into the National Honor Society. To qualify for the honor society, a student must not only excel academically, but also must demonstrate qualities of leadership and service to others.

As they entered the ORR cafeteria junior Michael Kassabian provided piano accompaniment for his fellow inductees. Honor society and Junior Class Advisor Sarabeth Morrell, Principal Michael Devoll, and honor society President senior Leah Thomas spoke.  Fellow senior and honor society member Connor Blagden introduced the evening’s guest speaker, ORR math teacher Mikah Kidney. He shared the five values students should strive to live by.

Society member and senior Zachary Tilden moved the audience with his speech that dedicated the ORR honor society chapter in memory of Dana Dourdeville.

“Dana exemplified the principles of The National Honor Society and we were so proud to name the organization in his memory,” Morrell said.

As the inductees were presented, each received an individual candle lit from the candle of knowledge.  New members received pins and membership cards to commemorate affiliation with this society that has honored students since 1921.

Junior and new inductee Andrea Harris said of her induction, “I think it’s an honor and I’m really excited to be a part of this group. I’m looking forward to helping out in the community with NHS.”

Morrell was pleased with the evening, saying, “We inducted 55 members and I am so proud of each of them.”
