Superintendent to seek interim principal for Old Hammondtown School

With Old Hammondtown School Principal Matt D'Andrea's recent resignation, Superintendent Doug White will begin the process of selecting an interim principal to complete the school year.

On Aug. 26, D'Andrea agreed to take a position as assistant superintendent of Mattapoisett Vineyard public schools. His last day in Mattapoisett will be Nov. 1.

At Monday's School Committee meeting, White said an interim would be the best option to give the committee time to decide what it wants in the next candidate.

"When you try to fill a position in the beginning of a school year or first half, a lot of people are already committed to their contracts and may not be or could not get out of their current contracts thereby limiting the possibility for candidates," said White.

He added that a number of retired principals are usually available to fill such partial year positions.

If there is an overwhelming response to the interim position, White said he might assemble a small committee to choose a candidate.
