Suspect arrested in Marion stabbing
A 38-year-old man from Middleboro was apparently the victim of a stabbing on Friday night. He was transported to Tobey Hospital in Wareham by Marion Fire/EMS after after officers Kris Smith and Larry Savery found him staggering in the street near Converse Road and Route 6 around 10:30 p.m.
According to police, the man was bleeding from the face and hand and was inebriated.
He identified his attacker as Gary F. Phillipo, 36, of Middleboro.
Officers were unable to immediately locate the suspect.
A few hours later, Sgt. Marshall Sadeck and Derryl Lawrence responded to the area of Mill Street for a suspicious person who turned out to be Phillipo. He was arrested, booked at the Marion Police Station and ordered held on $5,000 cash bail.
Police charged Phillipo with assault by means of a dangerous weapon, assault with intent to murder and malicious destruction of property.
He was later transported to the Plymouth County House of Correction where he is being held on $10,000 cash bail. Phillipo also has a probable cause hearing scheduled for Oct. 5.
